When we look at how fast cars can speed up, it’s important to note that different models might use various methods to report their acceleration times. For example, high-performance cars like the Lucid Air or Tesla Model S Plaid often take off from a standstill with a 1-foot rollout subtracted from their reported 2024 Electric Cars U.S acceleration times. This helps to make comparisons between different cars more fair. However, because there isn’t a consistent set of data for all cars, there can be some uncertainty in the reported times, usually ranging from 0.1 to 0.2 seconds.

Around 20% of all configurations can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds or less.
About half of the listed EVs can reach 60 mph in under 4.5 seconds. Over 80% can do it in under 6.0 seconds. Only a few, less than 40 out of roughly 250, need between 6.0 and 9.0 seconds.

The Tesla Model Y 2024 Electric Cars U.S Performance is also impressive, with an estimated 0-60 mph time of 3.5 seconds and a competitive cost of $46,630 after a $7,500 federal tax credit.
While the Tesla Model 3 Performance would likely offer similar acceleration at a lower price, it’s currently not available.
Overall, there are few slow electric cars on the market, with most feeling much quicker than typical new gas-powered cars.
